Sometimes I find myself at a breakfast crossroads. I’m craving a pain au chocolat or peanut butter banana toast. Then, I wake up in the morning and realize that I have an abundance of spinach, spirulina, and avocado, so I decide to make a green smoothie.
Even though the latter option sounds the least appealing, I usually force myself to eat it once a week. Drinking a green smoothie feels like a vacuum for your insides. All the bad stuff leaves and you’re left with (mostly) good stuff, which is important when you eat as much as I do.
There are ways to make green smoothies more palatable. Most of them involve adding sugar. For this smoothie bowl, I added a really ripe banana into the mix and used spinach as the base. Spinach has more sugar than other greens such as kale, so it makes a less salad-y smoothie (for lack of a better description).
I also like to add lots of toppings to green smoothie bowls to distract myself from all the healthy stuff going on underneath it. For this bowl, I cut up kiwi and put some blueberries, hemp hearts, chia seeds, and sprinkle of granola on top.
I guess the moral of the story is to make not fun things fun by distracting yourself. It’s always worked for me.
In other news, I’ve been watching reruns of Twin Peaks and I love it. The writing is on point and the characterization is amazing. One of my favorite moments from a recent episode is when a lumberjack bursts in and tells the FBI detective that there was a fish in the coffee percolator. The lumberjack’s line delivery and the detective’s reaction is priceless.
ANYWAY. Here’s a completely unrelated song. It’s good for long weekends, impromptu rounds of car karaoke, or pretty much whenever.
